Church of St Mary the Virgin, Chapel Hill in Tintern.
I first noticed these church ruins, whilst taking wedding photographs at Tintern Abbey, they are barely visible, sitting half way up Chapel Hill opposite.
After one wedding, I had some time to find the church, (initially taking the wrong path for 20 minutes, with all my cameras and tripod etc) the further I climbed the hill, the worse the weather looked, but it was worth it. The church, medieval in origin, was re-built in 1866-8 but destroyed by fire in 1977. Although the churchyard is still maintained by volunteers, it is slowly being reclaimed by nature, the overgrown ivy adding a melancholy, atmospheric feel on an overcast day.
